Diada 2012, no doubt will be looked at as a major milestone and is specially healthy at a time of hardship. The self esteem the Catalans have demonstrated on that day is especially valuable for the future, the trust in a better future it inspired will definitly help them overcome today's difficulties while the courage and resilience it takes to protect a culture and its rights from a powerful state are just the right engines to power a sound economy.
There is a lot of anger among the small nations in Europe and to see it expressed through renewed self esteem and demonstration of pride to be honest pleases me. Much more than the ugly attempt from a French centre right leader to foil it under a race banner under the pretense to have in common to be confronted by poor speech. The move is absolutely outrageous from a would be leader. A mong the french small nations, there is a lot of sadness, bitterness, frustration and anger. Often deprived of their language, songs, the words, the music to express the pain for the loss lacks. Sometime, identify the cause of that anger is difficult. So to see an educated man with all the background needed to understand that, ready to try to foil that anger under a race banner to win an election isn't just outrageous, it is wrong and deny an essential duty of politics which is to enlight with words the dark feelings, not just win elections.
Not to mention that some french politicians did just that some 70 years ago.
