Not really, it is a point of view I never shared, actually for a long time I just felt discomfort with it but was unable to say why and it is not that I have any sympathy but I do understand that it is about misleading for which the french state here but elsewhere it is more of the same, politicians, policies and representation bear the entire responsability.
You are not going to find that anywhere in the UK. Why? What happen to a folk that has been kept in the dark of his culture, his language, the Land and history of his nation that finds himself suddenly in deep trouble with problems he can't solve. What would you do? Turn to what can't be taken away from you which is Culture, traditions and passed teaching you how your ancestry went through tough times, uplifting your soul and leading today the spirit driving you through. But what if the state in charge of the best interest of one or more Small Nations and its descent has for political motives, ideology and sometime not very pretty economic interests that have nothing to do with the Small Nation's united national interest has voluntarily destroyed these traditions, culture, organised through the administrative system the loss of the language and bared its evolution to technical and cultural modernity, isn't that state responsible of the mistakes any average folk may make?
How many are in this situation voted for the french national front? Can I and should anyone subscribe to any kind of trial of whoever may be in this situation, I dont think so.
You know what, there is one thing that kept obsessing me. Every time, somehow Corsican culture (I just take it as an example of what applies for many) is evoked it is to be celebrated which is perfectly alright or mocked because it is dated (ie very traditional songs and music which is part of the Corsican Culture). I always wondered why some people needed to mock it. Of course these very special old songs have an outdated character but if politeness isn't enough to show some respect, why dont they understand that if most of the Corsican Culture seems today to have a character of the passed it is precisely because its evolution was stopped not because it is its character. And it wasn't stopped as a result of evolution or by choice of its people but it is gov and policies intervention of the very state in charge of the best of the interests of that small nation that lead to this result and what's true for Corsica is true for many others.
That's why right now it is specially unacceptable to see horrified politicians at the idea some folks head to the wrong side of politics after they have been doing everything they could to mislead them into an identity that isn't theirs.
